Fascial Counterstrain–Centered Physical Therapy

The center of how I work.

Fascial Counterstrain is the primary lens for assessment and treatment at Conway Physical Therapy. It's a gentle, highly specific hands-on approach that helps identify which tissues may be contributing to pain, stiffness, sensitivity, or limited movement — and guides where treatment should begin. Rather than focusing only on the area that hurts, it considers how different tissue systems may be influencing how your body moves and protects itself.

A more detailed picture, before a plan.

Every plan starts with understanding. That means a thorough history, a movement and clinical assessment, and a tissue-specific Fascial Counterstrain assessment — all aimed at building a clearer picture of what may be involved. From there, care is guided by what the assessment finds and how you respond, not by a fixed protocol.

Supporting manual approaches, used when appropriate.

Alongside Fascial Counterstrain, I draw on other hands-on methods when the assessment points that way:

  • Craniosacral therapy
  • Osteopathic manual therapy / Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)
  • Myofascial release
  • Neuromobilization

These aren't a fixed menu — each is chosen based on what your assessment finds and how your body responds.

Movement that supports the hands-on work.

Hands-on care works best when it's paired with the right movement. I assess how you move and, when helpful, provide individualized exercises to support and reinforce your progress between visits — kept specific and realistic, not a generic handout.

Dry needling, when it's the right tool.

When indicated, dry needling can help address certain muscular trigger points and pain patterns. Like everything else here, it's used selectively — only when the assessment suggests it's a good fit for what you're dealing with.

Reasons people come in.

  • Disc injuries
  • Cervical & lumbar radiculopathy
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder pain & rotator cuff issues
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Tennis & golfer's elbow and other tendinopathies
  • Hip & knee pain
  • Arthritic joints
  • Post-surgical recovery (including joint replacements)

Because Fascial Counterstrain is a whole-body approach, it applies to far more than any single list can capture. If you don't see your issue here, it's worth asking — there's a good chance it's something I can help with.
